What's New On Ithaca Greece
July 2025
Friday 11th - Above - When there's wind, Afales bay churns up the sand at the bottom of the sea and explodes with this vibrant aqua colour. Yesterday, the heatwave we've all been scorching under, finally broke. A cool wind blew away much of the heat mist that obscurred the other islands and Mainland Greece from view.
Above - In Vathy, yachts and boats were tumbled around by an increasingly choppy bay.
Above - A busy night at Yefuri Restaurant in Platrithia. Below - Friends enjoying a night together...and possibly some wine.
Monday 14th - We've had some brilliant weather since the heatwave broke last week. Hot days and cooler nights, a bit of wind and alot of restful nights. Below - the fantastic and only garden restaurant on the island. You know when you see something so beautiful and so inpsiring you just want to take photos of it, well that's this. Kanenas Restaurant in Stavros. Walk through the doors into a patch of paradise.

Stavros is the northern center of Ithaca and you'll find pretty much most of what you need to live your life on the island.
Below - Last night the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ithaca played to a full bayside with a contemporary repertoire of Disco, Latin and Rock. The bayside lit up with roars of cheers and applause. For more photographs CLICK HERE or on photo below.
Thursday 17th - We're heating up again and so the best place to be is at the beach. So far you can still find a little patch of your own, that can't be said for the sea. I've never seen so many yachts in the bays or in the ports. I think yesterday a record was broken in Vathy.
It’s that time of year again—when Ithaca fills up with life, and somehow feels twice as full without gaining an inch of extra space. The beaches are getting busier, the tavernas are buzzing, and the big question this summer might not be “Which beach?” but “Where will we park?”
If things keep going the way they are, the line of cars along the roadside from Krouvoulia 2 could very well stretch all the way to Raxi. A little dramatic, perhaps—but not entirely impossible! Might be worth bringing a bottle of water and a sunhat just for the walk.
Of course, we love seeing the island so full of energy and visitors, but if you’re planning a beach day, setting off early might be your best bet—or just embrace the slow wander down the hill.
This is summer on Ithaca—sun, sea, and a little creative parking along the way.

Summer on Ithaca
Friday 11th
Vathy in the morning is a time for locals to meet at the various cafes around the village square. It's also a time the yachts prepare to venture to the next location, but not before stocking up and maybe having a last quick look around the town.
Monday 14th - Here we are half way through July already. It's been a little up and down visitor-wise this year. Some days extremely busy, others quite quiet.
Thursday 17th - It's one of those classic hot July days on Ithaca—the kind where the light feels almost too bright to look at and the cicadas sing like they’re on fire. The air is still, thick with the scent of dry herbs and warm stone, and everything slows down under the weight of the heat.
But tonight, things liven up again. The Agia Marina festival is happening in Exoghi, and the quiet mountain village will come to life with music, dancing, and the sound of laughter spilling out into the night. It’s always a beautiful gathering—locals, visitors, old friends returning home for the summer—all under the stars with that sweeping view out to the sea.
If you're on the island, it's worth the winding drive up. There’s no better way to experience the heart of Ithaca than nights like these. Below - Wild pears at the roadside on the way to Filiatro Beach in the south of Ithaca greece..
