What's New On Ithaca Greece
May 2024
Wednesday 1st - Fine days this week. The island looks beautiful under these bright blue skies with wild flowers under our feet. There is some rain expected by Friday, but fine and sunny again by the weekend and especially Easter Sunday, the day of feasting. Below - Exoghi with the island of Lefkada in the distance.

Friday 3rd - Yesterday started off fine, but as the day progressed it began to get a little chilly and drizzle. It didn't last long before there were rays of sunshine again. Rain is forecast for today however. Let's see.

Saturday 4th - Oops in the weather. Last night was a bit chilly and windy for Good Friday celebrations, yet I've never seen so many people participate. The parking was like Panighiri time and the line of the parade went almost from the pier to Spavento Cafe Bar. For some pics CLICK HERE or on photograph below.
Today it's been rainy on and off with black and blue skies for some variety. Rain should clear by midday, but who knows. Before the weather change it was just lovely.
Sunday 5th - Happy Greek Easter to everyone who celebrates it. While we head off for our Easter Sunday feasts, last night the celebration of The Resurrection was held with church services around the island. We headed to Anoghi and then Stavros. In Frikes Odysseas Restaurant and Ageri Restaurant are open for business, as is Dodonis Cafe and Fiorendino. Nostimon will be opening on Wednesday.
The bayside may see more light without the canopes and tents, but on a windy and rainy day, it's pretty uncomfortable to have no protection and when people are too uncomfortable eating out, they'll probably eat in. If the EU is worried about the destruction of the coastline, then maybe it should look at the damage yachts do to the marine life and coastlines. And if they are worried about people falling into the water while eating dinner, then well, I don't know what to say. One thing is for sure, local businesses are being stripped bare piece by piece with non sensical regulations. Squeeze too hard and all you'll get is pus in your face.
Monday 6th - Yesterday Ithaca celebrated Easter Sunday with feasts all around the island. We all woke up to the perfect weather day for it. After Saturday's wintery conditions it was hard to believe that Sunday would be perfect, but it really was. For some photos of the day CLICK HERE or on photograph below.
Tuesday 7th - Last night Stavros put on an Easter Dance in the community Hall. Great turn out to raise some funds. CLICK HERE or on photo below for more pics.
Wednesday 8th - Alot of people leaving Ithaca today, many already went yesterday. The Easter week is well and truly over and now it's onto the 2024 Summer Season and all it's possibilities. Below - Many of you will recognize a couple of these faces. Poppy and Nek with their daughters.
Above - On the 6th was George's name day. George's all over Greece celebrated with a lunch somewhere around Greece, 2 of Ithaki's George's celebrated at Ageri Restaurant in Frikes. George from NY and George from Spavento. George from NY incidentally, was the first ever to make a website about Ithaca.
Below - Delicious Restaurant seems to be living up to it's namesake. It's become a favourite for locals and visitors alike.
Sunday 12th - After the big Easter week and weekend, it feels very quiet now, despite there being more and more yachts coming into Ithaca's Bays.

Friday 3rd - Below - the blue waters of Afales bay soon turned as grey as the sky once the clouds started rolling over.

Wednesday 8th - I do have a bit of a gripe. Today I saw these huge buses head along to Kioni where the roadsides are being fixed after the Ianos Storm which devastated a few sections along that route. I just wonder how clever it is to have buses go along there when the road is in such a precarious state. Surely it's not only dangerous first of all, but also defeating the purpose to fix the road.
Above - At the Frikes Pier it seems there's free electricity?????? or is someone diddling the grid????? Interesting.
