The annual Panighiri of Agia Lia lit up the village of Kioni with energy, music, and celebration under the warm summer night sky. From early evening until the early hours of the morning—well past 5am—the village was alive with locals, visitors, and holidaymakers, all coming together in true Ithacan spirit.
The Mnistires band played from the waterside, filling the bay with traditional sounds that echoed beautifully across the harbour. Both sides of the bay were heaving with activity—laughter, music, and conversation flowing freely between people of all ages. Yachts lined the harbour, adding to the postcard-perfect backdrop, their lights dancing on the water.
All the local restaurants did a roaring trade, serving up food and drinks to an endless stream of hungry and happy festival-goers. The dancing circle stayed full for most of the night, with people of all generations linking arms and taking part in the celebrations. It was especially lovely to see so many young children this year, reminding us that the tradition remains strong and is joyfully passed down.
The Kioni Panighiri is more than just a festival—it's a moment where the heart of the island beats a little louder, and everyone feels part of something timeless.
